First Game in a Month!

Finally got a chance to go out and do some playing this weekend. Lots of family events and school for wife have made that a challenge as of late. Not that those are bad things, just detractors from actual play time. In the interim, I've been getting some painting done (which I desperately needed to do anyway), so there really hasn't been much loss.

So, first game in a while against a new opponent...his name is Tom. Seen him around a lot, but never managed to get a game in with him. Orcs and Goblins against my High Elves. I made a tactical error right off...army was low magic (one of my strengths) and I almost paid for it. Tom brought 4 spellcasters and I got off 3 spells the entire game as a result. Some highlights:

  • Tom getting Goblins to shoot one of my two mages off his dragon causing me to lose control of the dragon for the rest of the game (it stood in the middle of the board and did nothing really for the rest of the game). (Turn 3)
  • Tom casts WAAAAAGH! but only manages to get 2 units into combat (it moves all units 2d6" forward). (Turn 4)
  • My White Lion Chariot takes on a unit of 18 orcs and beats them in hand to hand by itself and chases them down. (Turn 5)
  • White Lion unit takes on heavily armored Black Orcs and beats them in combat. (Turn 5)
By the end of it, I came out on top, but I literall couldn't muster much of anything until the end of Turn 4. The only reason I still was playing to Turn 6 was Toms unfortunate dice rolling at key junctures of the game. Great game and I hope I get a rematch with him soon...Going to see about setting up some sort of campaign/tournament at the local game store for the Fall.
